We’re always proud of our junior artists but this last weekend we were bursting with excitement at their achievements.
In celebration of the Dobell Festival, Lake Macquarie’s Museum of Art and Culture hosted the ‘Young Dobell’, an art competition for creatives under the age of 18 years.
To enter the competition kids and teens were invited to make and enter an A4 artwork of either a portrait, a pet, or a landscape – all subjects that William Dobell himself enjoyed working with. We had so much fun exploring these subjects in our kids and teens classes.
Early in the term our teachers at AMS dedicated a Kids and Teens class session to making pet portraits. Our students brought in photos of their animals and used mediums of their choice including pencils, charcoal, pastels, ink and watercolours to create their artworks.
It’s always such a joy seeing their unique artmaking styles.
We were thrilled to hear so many of our students had been selected for the exhibition which officially opened on the 1st of June 2025. Seeing their work hung amongst so many other talented emerging artists was wonderful for the students, their families and their teachers.
